How Effective Is An Elliptical Trainer At Burning Calories?

How Effective Is An Elliptical Trainer At Burning Calories?
Elliptical Trainer

Elliptical trainers are an excellent way to improve your health. This fitness machine can improve cardiovascular function, increase fitness, strengthen muscles, and build bone density. One of the most sought after benefits of exercise is to burn calories. How many calories you burn on an elliptical depends on a number of factors, as this machine allows the user a variety of workout routines that can have a significant impact on how many calories you burn off during that workout.
Basically, the amount of calories you burn when exercising on an elliptical trainer depends on 3 things, your weight, the intensity of the workout, and the duration of your workout.
Your weight - The amount of calories you expend during exercise depends on how big you are. Harvard Medical School says that, in general, during a half hour workout on an elliptical trainer, you will burn 270 calories if you weigh 125, 335 calories if you weigh 155, and 400 calories if you weigh 185. These are very basic statistics that have been generalized. The amount of calories expended can vary greatly depending on the intensity of the elliptical workout.
Intensity of Your Workout - Elliptical trainers have a number of features that allow you to vary the intensity of your workout. You can increase the intensity by moving the pedals faster which increases your strides per minute. The higher end models will count and display strides per minute for you. You can also increase the intensity by setting the resistance at
a higher level. An elliptical with moving handlebars will allow you to work your upper body as well, making you expend more energy and burn more calories. Some machines allow you to vary the incline, and increasing the incline will also cause you to burn more calories per hour. Interval training will ramp up the intensity of your workout considerably.
Instead of staying at one speed throughout your workout, increase the resistance setting for 30 to 60 seconds, recover at a lower setting for 30 to 60 seconds and repeat this cycle for 10 to 20 minutes or longer depending on your level of fitness. Interval workouts challenge your heart and muscles to work harder for short bursts, which causes your body to
work harder and burn more calories. You can get an idea of how intensity affects calories burned by going to caloriesperhour.com. According to this website a 150 pound person who does 60 strides a minute with a resistance of 4 (out of 20) will burn about 200 calories in an hour. That same 150 pound person will burn 382 calories an hour by increasing their strides per minute to 70 and the resistance to 10.
Duration Of Your Workout - This is pretty simple, the longer the workout the more calories you burn. So if you double the length of your workout you will burn twice as many calories.
If you are looking for an exercise routine to burn calories you should try an elliptical workout. A higher end new or used elliptical has all the features you need to design a workout that can maximize calorie burn based on your fitness level.
Consider purchasing a health club quality used arc trainer or elliptical trainer that has been professionally refurbished from [http://www.ellipticaltrainersdepot.com]. Purchasing a refurbished elliptical or arc trainer can save you 50% or more off the price of a new machine, which makes it more affordable for you to own the top brands such as a used Precor elliptical, refurbished Life Fitness, or a Cybex arc trainer.

Pre-Diabetic Diet

Pre-Diabetic Diet
Diabetic Diet

In the world of medicine the quotation "no two people are the same" comes to be true especially when it comes to diabetes. Diabetes makes human hormones and metabolism vary from person to person. Pre-diabetic diet is given to people whose glucose levels are above
normal but are not high enough to be considered as diabetic. According to major researches conducted in the United States, around 57 million people are suffering from high levels of glucose in their body. There is a sufficient time period given to patients to normalize their glucose levels.
Pre-diabetic diet is given by physicians in order to lower a high case of glucose level. Since there is a certain grace period before one can have type 2 diabetes. A proper diet and regular workout can help prevent this drastic disease from even happening.
Indications of diabetes have no specific symptoms of its own. Often times, when symptoms arise, they are prominent symptoms of type 2 diabetes. Excessive thirst for water and frequent urination is a sign of case 2 diabetes as well. Other symptoms that may be visible are the
feeling of being hungry all the time and unexplained loss or gain of weight. A person may feel an over fatigue and weakness that feels like that of influenza. Blurry vision and abrasions that takes a long process of healing is also a sign of high glucose levels, and it is generally the most common symptom. Aside from gum and skin infections that keep coming back, bladder infections may also occur regularly in pre-diabetes.
Doctors give out diabetic diet plans to reduce one's glucose levels. Reducing one's daily amount of carbohydrates, fat, sugar and calories helps reduce the chance of type 2 diabetes from progressing. The diet includes a list of fruits and vegetables that would be included in
every meal. High fiber green leafy vegetables are the ideal meal for someone in a pre-diabetic diet. Simple Carbohydrates must be avoided when one is in a pre-diabetic diet. The reason for this is that it may lead towards food cravings and weight gain for most people.
A list of high fiber of complex carbohydrate foods that is good for someone engaged in a pre-diabetic diet:

Vegan Diet to Lose Weight

Vegan Diet to Lose Weight
Vegan Diet

Helloguys I'm going to share a few ideas for the vegan diet to lose weight. Do you know anyone either personally or famous who is vegan? What did they tell you about that lifestyle? As a vegan you are automatically put in an all plant based diet whether you are trying to lose weight or not. Guides that talk about a certain vegan diet to lose weight or two can help you stay on track, but as a vegan you don't really need one. In a lifestyle of ingredient label readings and exercise, everyday you're already working on losing or maintaining your body weight.
The Power of Label Reading
Reading ingredient labels are very crucial to the vegan diet to lose weight. It comes second nature to all vegans since they must avoid all animal products. Most products that are in fact vegan are not specially marked so it always pays to read the label. You may find that the products labeled vegan are, for one thing, hard to come by and another thing, they can be pricey at times, but a vegan diet to lose weight doesn't have to be pricey with the power of label reading. Specially branded vegan items may be costly, however using your label research on multiple cheaper items can uncover certain vegan products that don't blatantly advertise the product as vegan. Other than the content, you can also learn the nutrients found in a product which is important for any diet. In general, vegan foods are lower in fat but reading and comparing different product labels can optimize your weight loss goal. Adding exercise will improve your weight loss as well.
The Exercising Truth
Everyone knows you can lose weight by exercising, but not everyone exercises when they want to lose weight. I'm telling you know, if you truly want to lose fat the natural way, you must have an exercise plan. When it's paired with a vegan diet to lose weight, be prepared for results! You don't have to spend hours at the gym pumping iron if that's not your style because how can you stick with something you don't like? The main reason people don't stick with their exercise is because they hate doing it. Being active in any way possible is good, instead of sitting in front of the TV watching a show you're only slightly interested in for an hour, use that hour to do some cardio and other exercise. Doing that alone will get you results, but if you're feeling it, why stop there? Exercise in your way on your schedule and you're more likely to stick with it.
Athletes Understand
Top athletes have been known to pair exercising with a vegan diet to lose weight for improved performance. As a vegan you don't face the fat from non-vegan foods as often so you'll feel healthier and feel like you're ready to take on an exercise instead of feeling weighted down by unnecessary fat from a quadruple beef patty you just had as "lunch". Stick with this vegan diet to lose weight and you'll also notice how much more refreshed and active your days become which will improve your chances on actually wanting to work out. Since exercising benefits you physically, then the combination of feeling good mentally with the vegan diet betters your chances of staying with the plan and achieving your weight loss goal guaranteed.
Be Vegan!
Once you start noticing that a vegan diet to lose weight is working substantially in keeping fat off of you and making your body healthier than the guy on a meat diet to lose weight, then there just doesn't seem to be a reason, that makes sense, to go back to your old eating habits unless being healthy just isn't right for you. Become a vegan. Understand that a vegan's healthy diet is only but a partial benefit of the lifestyle.

The Dukan Diet VS The Atkins Diet

Both the Dukan diet and the Atkins diet stick with the same objectives. Above all is to help in shedding weight and second is to reduce the ingestion of carbohydrates from food. One other important similarity is the number of phases which they share equally. Both of them offer 4 phases respectively. However, to satisfy the same objective, they follow
two different routes. Where the Dukan diet stresses the usage of high proteins to minimize carbohydrates, the Atkins diet does not. It stresses on the consumption of carbohydrates which it would like to first reduce and then finish off in the dieter's diet.
Phase 1:
Where phase one in the Dukan diet is referred to as the "attack phase", the Atkins diet refers to it as the "induction phase". Although the objective of the first phase is comparable (to trim down body weight considerably), they go forward with unique methods. Dukan emphasizes complete protein food in this first phase, cutting down most of the carbs and
fat. Atkins focuses on cutting down the consumption of the carbs only, and then works on switching the body from burning mostly carbohydrates (in the form of glucose) to burning mainly fat (including your body fat) for energy. Whilst there is no intake of carbs in the Dukan diet at all, Atkins diet allows for only 20 grams daily (including vegetables) during the first phase.
Phase 2:
Though objectives remain the same, there is a big difference in the paths in phase 2. The "Cruise phase" of the Dukan diet is about how to attain the target weight and for the first-time allows the dieter to eat vegetables. The Atkins diet
ensures that a small increase of 5gm to 10gm (25 to 30 grams a day) in the intake of carbohydrates occurs in the first week of the phase "Ongoing Weight Loss" (OWL) until the weight stops to decrease so the dieter can easily determine when the maintenance period should start. Then the dieter is advised to subtract five grams of carbohydrates from their daily consumption so that they move on with sustained, moderate weight-loss.
Phase 3:
The diets use a different approach at phase 3, which is the "Consolidation phase" for the Dukan diet and "Pre-maintenance" for the Atkins diet. For the Dukan diet, this is the start of the maintenance period of the dieter's "true weight" that was attained in phase 2. Where as at this phase the Atkins diet performs the preparations required by the Pre- maintenance period. The carbohydrate intake is reduced again to achieve the goal weight.
Phase 4:
In this last phase, "Stabilization" for Dukan and "Lifetime Maintenance" for Atkins, it's about showing everyone around you that "Yes! I can stick to it!" At this stage both of the weight loss programs will make you climb onto exactly the same platform. You will have to live the rest of your life in phase 4 of your respective diets, well done!
Eating is part of life and should be neither regimented nor sacrificed. The Dukan diet promises those on a diet to drop weight by eating as much as they desire with one hundred accepted foods. The Atkins diet has been around for 40
years and has been supported with over sixty studies during this time period. In summary, both diets are designed to help one slim down. However, in losing weight the diets require the dieter to give up some foods, whichever one you consider.

Biggest Losers Diet - Two Champs Reveal Secrets to Incredibly Fast Weight Loss in Their New System

Biggest Losers Diet
The Biggest Losers Diet has been a closely guarded secret but now two of The Biggest Loser Champions, Bill and Jim Germanakos are sharing all.  The twins were the winners of season 4 and stunned the world by losing a combined 350 pounds in just 8 months, now they have put all their secrets down on paper for you to see.
The Biggest Losers Diet is so successful because it is a combination of many key elements all implemented at one time.  Bill and Jim, often referred to as The Weight Loss Twins, learned how to put the formula for rapid weight loss together by working closely with the shows medical doctors, nutritionists, dieticians, psychologists and trainers.
And once they had the formula the weight just started dropping off even for Jim who was eliminated in week 5 and was sent home where he successfully lost 132 pounds in 6 months while working a full-time job.  This proved that the system they had could work for anyone.
Here are some keys the brothers are now sharing in their new easy to follow rapid weight loss system.
1.  Find your motivation.  You can know all there is to know about eating right but without motivation you won't get started.  The brothers are master motivators and this comes through in their teachings.
2.  Exercise smarter.  Time is a factor when it comes to exercising so learn how to exercise smart.  For instance, you can maximize your results by working out with weights a few times a week or doing high intensity workouts which allow you to get more fat burning in less time.
3.  Don't fall into the low calorie trap.  It is easy to think that the fewer calories you eat the faster you will lose but there is a point where you are eating too few calories and your body puts the brakes on your metabolism.  You must eat to lose.
4.  Keep records.  The Biggest Losers record all of the foods they eat and exercise they do so they know exactly where they stand.
5.  Educate yourself.  The twins learned how to drop pounds fast from being on the show and they have taken the key educational points and put them in their new system for you.
The Biggest Losers diet produces rapid weight loss and now two guys who lived by these dieting rules are ready to share their secrets with you.  If your goal is to lose weight fast, then I encourage you to look into their new system.
The winners of Season 4 of The Biggest Loser are about to reveal The Truth About Diets.
Combined these two men lost over 350 pounds in only 8 months (photo & video) They have taken their experience and education from the show and put together the Rapid Action Metabolism Weight Loss System (The RAM System).

Why The Slim Fast Diet is so Popular
The Slim Fast Diet is a very popular and effective weight loss program that has been around for over thirty years. Many individuals prefer this diet to other diets because it is easy to follow and convenient.
So what exactly is the Slim Fast Diet and why is it so recommended? The Thompson Medical Group created Slim Fast in 1977. The plan consists of having a shake for breakfast, another one for lunch and a reasonable dinner. Dieters can
also enjoy two Slim Fast snacks during the day. Slim Fast has a get started plan to help you lose up to six pounds in just two weeks. The plan recommends no more than 1,200 to 1,500 calories per day along with daily exercise of at least thirty minutes. According to the Slim Fast website, most people lose at a rate of one to two pounds a week.
The shakes include the original shake, the Optima, low carb, high protein, and Easy-to-Digest which are lactose and gluten-free. Slim Fast's products include great tasting meal replacement shakes that come in a variety of flavors such as creamy milk chocolate, French vanilla and strawberry. The shakes can be bought in ready to drink cans and in easy
to use powder. Then they have the Meal-On-The-Go bars and craving control snack bars. The shakes and bars have the perfect blend of fat, protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins and minerals, so you can stay strong and still lose weight. They come in an assortment of delicious flavors such as creamy milk chocolate, French vanilla and strawberry. Slim Fast has even designed soups and pastas to satisfy even the hungriest dieter.
Slim Fast's website has free online support from registered dieticians along with a ton of helpful diet tools. Users get customized diet and fitness plans that help them figure out how many calories a day they need and includes menu
plans based on their Slim Fast choices, a BMI calculator, weight loss tools, healthy recipes and eating out guide, and a community support forum where other users can chat online and find weight loss buddies. The focus of the plan is on healthy eating, portion control and exercise. Success stories are posted on the website for other dieters to view.
Almost every major retail store across the United States carries the Slim Fast products. Many celebrities have endorsed Slim Fast through the years including super model Rachel Hunter, Whoopi Goldberg, Kathie Lee Gifford and Tommy Lasorda. Rachel Hunter is part of Slim Fast's new "Find Your Slim" campaign that includes a weight loss contest for dieters.
Overall, the Slim Fast diet appears to be a reasonable diet program that is easy to follow. It stresses the importance of portion control, eating healthy food and exercise along with incorporating Slim Fast products into a balanced low calorie diet. Slim Fast is one of the few diet plans that has the doctor-tested research to back up its claims of weight loss. Slim
Fast could certainly be used successfully for weight management and a healthy lifestyle. The diet works better when combined with Hoodia supplements. Hoodia is a plant that grows in the African desert and is well know for its health properties and its ability to curb the appetite.

Diet And Exercising For Weight Loss

Diet And Exercising For Weight Loss
Diet And Exercising For Weight Loss

Obesity is now being called an epidemic in the health community. In fact, it will soon be the leading cause of preventable death in the United States, even ahead of cigarette smoking. Obesity leads to type two diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke and even
an increased risk of cancer. With all of these health risks, as well as the general improvement in the quality of life that can occur, losing weight is one of the best things that you can do for yourself.

No matter what we would like to believe, there simply isn’t a magic solution to losing weight. The body will shed excess fat when it needs more calories to function through the demands you place on it in a given day than the amount of calories that you feed it. It’s that simple. So, in order to lose weight, you need to decrease the number of calories that you eat as well as increase the amount that you burn.

There is a wide range of options to choose from when looking for a weight loss program. All of them often spend a lot of time explaining what to eat, in what amounts and even at what times or in what combinations. But few of them emphasize the importance of exercise – not just for losing weight, but for your general health and wellbeing. Exercise is vital when trying to lose weight for several reasons:

First, as you start to eat less, your metabolism will slow down somewhat. Exercising helps to elevate your metabolism back to an efficient level.Second, as mentioned, exercise burns more calories so that you can lose weight faster and stay motivated in your efforts.Third, exercise actually releases endorphins, chemicals that keep your mood elevated.

Exercise doesn’t have to mean spending hours at the gym or straining through exhausting workouts. In fact, in order for you to stick with it on the long run, exercising should be something that you enjoy. Start by increasing your activity level in an overall way. Take the stairs when you can. Park further from the mall door when you go shopping. Go for a walk in the park or through a neighborhood you love and bring a dog or a friend along for company. Take dance or martial arts lessons.

Once you become more active in general, you’ll find it easier and more natural to move into regular exercise. Which you’ll need to do eventually in order to get regular, noticeable health benefits. You need to raise your heart rate to a fat burning level and keep it there for at least 20 minutes, 3 times or more a week. However, if you don’t want to go to a gym, there are other options. Videos and DVDs are now available in all kinds of exercise types. That way you can change your routine whenever you want so that you don’t get bored with what you’re doing. Try a range of aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, or pretty much any activity you want right in the comfort of your own home.

If you have physical limitations that would keep you off from exercising, you can still find a way to increase your activity level. Water aerobics is a wonderful option for those who have joint problems or limited mobility because it relieves the pressure on your body that your weight provides. But you still get the resistance to challenge your muscles from the water. There are even classes and videos available that let you exercise in a seated position.

Whatever kind of exercise you choose, it’s important to stay motivated and keep it fun. Try gathering a group together to make it a social event. Or get a pedometer, a device that tracks how far you walk, and see how many miles you can walk a week. Make a competition amongst your friends or family members and treat the winner with something special (not food related!). Make the experience of exercising something that you look forward to, and it will soon become a regular part of your healthier lifestyle.

Acai Berry Diet Lies

If you have not been paying much attention to the media lately, there has been a ton of talk about a little purple colored fruit called the acai berry and lots of talk about the so called acai berry diet. Unfortunately, some of the talk is based on lies and half-truths but we are used to that when a product is hot.
The acai berry is grown in Brazil and harvested from the acai palm. The tree generally grows in floodlands and swampy areas. Acai has actually been used by the local people of Brazil for hundreds of years. They eat it fresh, and also use it in all kinds of products like drinks, smoothies, and even ice cream.
Similar to what happened with the hoodia plant, the American media got information on the power of acai berry and it has been going crazy since that time. In the case of Hoodia, it was a mention on the 60 Minutes television show that helped to launch its popularity. She pretty much told the world that hoodia did work and helped to curb her appetite so everyone wanted to buy it.
Once the demand begins to skyrocket, manufacturers and marketers go ballistic in trying to be the first ones to market and carve out their piece of the pie. Like with most things sold around the world, and this is especially true for the internet, some companies do it the right way and some like to push the envelope in terms of what is right and wrong.
Getting back to the Acai Berry Diet, companies and marketers are definitely starting to stretch the truth when it comes to acai, and the worse part about that is the fact that it's not really needed.
Acai berry has pretty much been shown to be one of the top fruits on the planet. There have been some independent studies done on it, some doctor reviews of it, and of course the much needed celebrity endorsements on how great it is.
One of the biggest endorsements, and ultimately promotions, of the acai berry craze is probably the Oprah show. It's not because she or her guests said anything wild or outlandish to get everybody excited to buy it because she doesn't need to do that.
Once Oprah presents something to her guests, an amazing thing happens that even the top marketers can't achieve and that's massive sales. That's exactly what happened with acai berry and ultimately what's being mislabeled as the "acai berry diet." The trend for being healthy and using acai had started before the show mentioned it, but she definitely had something to do with its meteoric rise as the fruit to eat if you want to be healthy and lose weight.
In reality, it was two of Oprah's frequent guests that probably had the most impact on helping to educate the world about Acai. Dr. Perricone, who is a New York Times Best Selling Author, described acai as nature's perfect energy food. He also crowned it #1 on his Top 10 Superfoods List.
On this list are several fruits and vegetables that contain all kinds of great ingredients that help us nutritionally and health wise filled with things like fiber, amino acids, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, vitamins and more.
Acai topped Dr. Perricone's list because it contained high amounts of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, fiber and other ingredients all at once while few of the other superfoods could make that same claim. He also mentions the power of acai in several of his books which helped to substantiate everything that was being said about this amazing fruit.
Another of Oprah's frequent guests is Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz also praised the benefits of acai and how good it was for us to eat. He also described how the antioxidants in acai could help us to protect our skin, eyes, heart, and other vital organs against free radicals and oxidation. What this means in a nutshell is that acai can help to fight against premature aging.
Any product that helps fight against aging is going to be popular and this is especially true when it comes to women. The only thing that may top that group is men and women looking for the next big weight loss secret.
Unfortunately, that's where the acai berry diet lies come into play. People are getting so excited about the potential of acai that they are getting out of control. For example, there was an ad today that was being displayed that said Rachel Ray lost all of her weight on acai berry. The ad carried her image and made it appear that she was directly endorsing the aforementioned acai berry diet.
The internet is so big and so broad that the average celebrity is used to their images being thrown around, and sometimes in some very unflattering ways, so chances are they are simply going to ignore such claims. However, you the consumer, should be made aware that some of the celebrity endorsed ads are false.
Again, you normally see that kind of thing when you don't have endorsements. In the case of acai, you have legitimate thumbs up from power celebrities, doctors, and others that say this stuff is great.
Another one of the common ads online shows Oprah and makes the claim that it is Oprah's New Acai Diet Plan. Some would argue that it is just a play on words and poor copywriting when it is probably closer to false advertising. Oprah does not have an acai diet plan, and nor does Rachel Ray. They are two celebrities that just so happened to mention the benefits of the fruit on their shows.
Does the acai berry help you to lose weight? Well, it can in terms of reducing fat absorption, recovery from workouts, improved energy and a host of other things. Dr. Perricone talks about the reduce fat absorption factor. But, it is not a fat burner. Acai in itself is not going to make you drop 25 pounds in 25 days as yet another site claims will happen. It is highly unlikely that a claim like that is anywhere close to reality.
So, what is reality? Reality is that acai is good for you. Another reality is that it does have strong endorsements from shows like Oprah's and doctors like Dr. Perricone and Dr. Oz. A University of Florida study even cites that in certain inside laboratory tests that acai was able to kill up to 86% of certain cancer cells.
As for the acai berry diet, the real reality is that it is normally paired with a natural colon cleanse and that has proven to be effective in creating weight loss. Therefore, the diet is not really based on acai berry alone but a combination of two products. With that said, there are a few companies that have enhanced their acai berry formulas with specific ingredients to help speed up the weight loss process.
Review the site below for more information on the acai berry diet using the side product of colon cleansers, or to see what kinds of ingredients are added to help with weight loss. It's important to be a smart shopper and this is especially true when a certain product is so hot that it generates unconfirmed hype or claims that are unverified and sometimes potentially dangerous.
